Perhaps using an Apple TV to airplay from the iPad to the TV. You can then move the Apple TV to another TV if you wish. Same result as Dougs suggestion but a bit more flexible. You may wish to use a small HDTV they are cheap and better sized?

Our solution is to output the desktop 1920x1080 to big screen HD TV at same resolution and it is easy to see and play guitar on a few feet away....and screen quality is excellent even close up (5').
Cost = $5 for HDMI cable; plug into laptop and TV = done (may have to use laptop keystroke to have display on 2 screens).
I think there may be an iPad cable converter to go from iPad socket to HDMI, but have not looked yet as same sheet music on both iPad and laptop, and laptop near TV all day.
We scan sheet music and save as .pdf.
