So if I want to view photos, do they download to my iPad? It seems they do since I can see them in airplane mode.

I trust myself to redundantly store full-resolution copies of my images. I don't trust the cloud, and automaticity, to do so.

In part, that was why I felt 128 GB was worthwhile for iPhone and iPad storage.

You can keep your movies/to show from displaying on you iPads. Even the images take up space so I have chosen not to display them. I don't see that in iPhoto's tho. To get them on the cloud you go to the cloud settings in you iPad.

I turned on airplane mode on my iPad. Then brought up a photo in All Photos (those are supposedly optimized to show only thumbnails) and the photo came up and looked completely normal. I wasn't using WiFi or Internet with airplane mode on. Does this mean the photos are on my iPad not optimized? I tried getting into my shared library and couldn't (as expected) with airplane mode on. To me, that means all shared folders are only in iCloud and not on my iPad. I'm probably wrong though.
