I also had a home check from one of my breeders. Tough breeders are probably the reason backyard breeders and puppy mills stay in business, sadly. But I would rather deal with a breeder who cares than one who will hand over a little life to anyone with a checkbook.
And just to clarify an earlier post, I believe that any time there is a placement failure, it is the human's fault, not the puppy's fault. Puppies aren't born knowing how to behave, and if the humans can't be bothered to teach puppies good behavior, then the puppy got shafted.
