Re: [iPad] VERY OT: pet question/Kris

It works for you.   I played the game, I am a satisfied customer.  Will I be inclined to play the game when she passes on and I get another pet?  Probably not...

From a buyers perspective it is a bit much.

What, exactly, is a bit much?

The first litter we bred had seven pups. In the case of either 5 or 6 of them, cause of death was "hit by car". One passed in owner's lap at 15yr3mo.

We have never sold a dog since without checking with regard to fencing.
(In the case of one of them, the only preventive would have been NEVER letting him out but on lead. He was 32" at the shoulders, 105 lb, and cleared 6' fences from a standing start.

My breeder came and toured my house...

People getting a Borzoi for the first tie need extensive advice about how to manage the hound in the house, and manage the house to be compatible with the hound.

I suspect this is often the case with other breeds, also.

Gave me a health guarantee...  I thought it was a bit of overkill.  Last I checked, nobody knows the length of another life, just because you ask questions doesn't really determine ones heart.

You might be surprised how good an impression an experienced breeder can get from talking to a prospective buyer, and watching her interact with other dogs, hers and strangers.

A health guarantee does NOT promise the hound will always be healthy.
It promises the breeder will stand behind their "product", and it does tell you something about the confidence the breeder has that known health problems have been avoided -- through vaccinations, proper exercise as puppies, selection of parents to avoid known heritable health risks, etc.
