Yeah, fines should be $500, loss of license for 2nd offense.
I could give out half a dozen tickets on my way home each day. And that is just the cars I can see next to me.

The $50. Fines do not seem to provide much incentive to stay off the phones…. nor does the lack of aggressive enforcement.

It does not seem to matter that they passed a law here in CA making it
illegal to drive and use a cell phone, other than hands free, but it
does not seem to make a difference. I was almost hit by a car in a
parking lot the other day by a lady on her cell phone who was backing
her car up AND talking.....I was a pedestrian.
