Wait till iOS5 comes out in iPhone 5 and iPad 3.The e-print will be built in and other printer manufacturers ( any respectable one out there? ) will follow the suit.Earlier I was worried about 5 meter cord and 3 meter ones. Now external hard disk on wifi is also coming out. From serial port to parallel port to USB to Bluetooth to wifi has been a long 40 year journey. What do you mean exactly? Not sure Apple pioneered WiFi printing. WiFi came from a standard developed years ago and I am not sure Apple was a big player. Just an adopter.
If the iPad is an example of Apple's implementation of WiFi printing, they failed and their team of pioneers were killed on the trail.
They took a great standard and closed it up. Especially since only 12 printers can be used to print wirelessly unless you have a paid application that allows you to print to a thousand other than Apple approved printers.
Care to cite some proof of Apple's pioneering efforts?

My printer is in one room and desktop in another, and iPad / iPhone can be anywhere in the home. As long as they are on same wifi network, I can scan and print.

Re: [iPad] Re: Too many printer apps available... which to choose?
My canon has a printing app. It works over my wifi network? Isn't that good enough? The best person to make the software makes the hardware IMO.
