Now this I've never quite understood. Why be a part of something if you're
just going to be a voyeur?

=============================================

Sometimes FB's where you have to go to keep up with someone who may be
posting assorted updates or whatnot -- but not (thankyou) emailing
everything to everyone who might have even a remote interest. e.g. brother
traveling, cousin marrying, etc. Not vital, just how's-it-going stuff.

Occasionally I'll check something/someone specific in FB just as I check any
other website for current information.
Does checking in at the local newspaper website w/o contributing make me a
voyeur?

How about -- I've been reading a newspaper for <letsnotsay> years but I'm
not a reporter -- but the paper is happy (& these days thrilled!) to have
readers.

There are lots of sites, some requiring some sort of registration (which may
or may not be free) that are info-sources; FB is just another one, although
it also wants you to contribute information. I see it as a useful resource
or tool, although it's getting to be rather *too* big now, verging on giving
us the creeps.
