Took it in along with my computer & camped out @ Apple for an hour+
yesterday.
(Store as usual was buzzing, even in mid-week/mid-day.)
(along the way, discovered that the Apple Store app on my phone knows you're
in the store (maybe 'cause I was on the store wifi?) & asks if you want help
now -- & tells you where you are in line if you do!)
Went through the whole process, tech saw what I meant & gave the device a
"deep restore" (deeper than the home version I guess). Still didn't work, so
he swapped it out for a new one. That didn't work either so it seems to be
something about my computer (or me :-)) that it doesn't like. <sigh> Apple
Guy didn't know enough about Windows to guess at what might be wrong (though
he did change a couple of settings in iTunes prefs I didn't know about -- &
w/o success anyway.)
Have another computer that I'm setting up from re-systemizing & will try
that out at a more or less bare-bones (i.e. pretty uncluttered) system &
see what happens.
I can get the ATV onto the internet, & I can get it to do AirPlay from my
iPad/iPod; I may have to settle for that. My niece's fiance is some sort of
IT guy & I may get him in on the act -- the ATV was a joint Xmas gift from
them & my nephew+wife.
Meanwhile, I have a project due after the weekend & just have to make enough
things (including <ahem> *me*) work to get that done.
