Both can be set to open when an iDevice is attached if I remember correctly

Thank you so much for the help in moving my iPad pix to iMac!
** Image Capture or iPhoto must FIRST be open.** I'd connect the iPad and NOT see it as a device in Finder, then think the iPad photo file could not be accessed. After all, USBs and camera cards pop up immediately.
Image Capture lets me put photos in files I can arrange without learning iPhoto (a new app for me).
