There are a LOT of things, and people, that it IS the right size for.
And there are larger size products from Apple for uses that need larger sizes.

No sense of history.
Apple has NEVER "talked out of the box" until the point at which they were ready to announce and release the revolutionary product.

Why change now?
Oh, right. Because you think they should.
