Re: [iPad] nytimes article on tim cook

The iPad proved to marketers that a magazine-size hand-held screen can sell.  But the iPad isn't quite right.  It takes up too much space - it's like a man purse for men and a second purse for women.

And the iPhone needs to be re-thought.  It's the right size for portability but wrong for the fingers and eyes.

No, I have no idea.  That's Apple's job.  Unfortunately, all we hear from Apple is more ways to milk their cash cows.  They ought at least to be talking out of the box.

Odd

Its like praising the person who invented the car, then criticising that same person as we still have just cars, that have just evolved.

I dare anyone to name a new and innovative product in the smart devices category, its all been done. Phones have been done, tablets, smart watches, all been done.

Its now about innovating these devices to be more useful. Apples foray into the HomeKit is one innovation, centralising the many many protocols that already exist into one seamless product/service to use them all. Not a new product or service, juts a better means to implement it

Michael A. Cusumano, a professor in the Sloan School of Management at M.I.T., said he thought Apple no longer had the juice to create the world-beating product it needs. Professor Cusumano, who is working on a book about innovation, visited Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., last fall and has talked to a half-dozen current and former employees about the company culture. He concluded that Apple without Mr. Jobs lacks a visionary to synthesize disparate ideas into a magical whole.
"Jobs would figure out how to put the pieces together," Professor Cusumano said. "Everything just filtered through his eyes."
"I think it's going to be very difficult for them to come up with the next big thing," he added. "They've lost their heart and soul."
