You cannot – yet – share purchases across different Apple IDs.
Supposedly with MacOS 10.10 and iOS 8 this will be possible, but at present, two users must share the ID that made the purchases to share the purchases.
There is nothing preventing you both from having more than one Apple ID, however, if, for example, you want to maintain separate contact lists, or calendars.
