Nothing wrong with tiff but I thought jpg would be smaller and can be looked at on any platform. I'm putting all the photos on discs for the members of my family. I would like to embed metadata into each photo, description, date taken and so on. Is there an easy way to do embedded metadata?

Or not.

Not necessarily, and not usually.

So, what is your problem with lossless compression?

I would probably choose .PNG (lossless compression, and non-proprietary).
