You don't have to de-authorize one PC to authorize on the new one. I have
two authorized, soon to be three when I get my MBA set up (mostly, at least
to start, for iTunes & entertainment use). The PC-iTunes I don't use to syn
with now tells me I have a zillion app-updates. I just haven't bothered to
clean out the content there.
I'll also have to deal with authorizing with Amazon & Audible. After that
I'll decide whether or not to de-auth anything.

Also, if you bought songs, apps etc on the old PC, de-authorize it and long
in on your new PC. Authorize this and go into your 'Purchase history'. You
should be able to re-download things for free.
Hopefully, you can in fact, simply copy over from the old computer. *I*
actually keep my iTunes on an external drive. It keeps all my stuff I've
imported & bought on it. I use that as the "Source drive" for my iTunes
library.
