Good news, Isabel! The American providers/carriers sound a bit complicated

Verizon's directions were misleading.

thank goodness for Google (and this forum)

You have to go to Settings, General and Reset, click on Reset and then
Subscriber Services.

It took several steps but I finally got my data activated.
