You make a very good point -- Apple could have left the size of the case
the same for all 3 generations of the iPad, even as they lightened the
weight, so that a case bought for the original iPad would work easily
with either of the more recent models, and someone with an original iPad
could buy one of the newer case designs and have it work.
It is incredible how short-sighted people are about the long-term good
for everybody.
