It would be nice if I could use assisted GPS while walking about in rainy weather. Is there a waterproof case for the new iPad that would still allow me to do whatever I need to do while it is inside the case?

I don't have a specific brand but there are waterproof plastic bags for
using electronic devices in wet conditions. There are also waterproof
plastic bags which camping/outdoor-gear stores sell to hold maps and
keep them safe while hiking/camping. Some of those bags are large
enough to hold an iPad easily, although I don't know whether in either
situation the touch screen would still work. You should be able to
bring your iPad into a camping gear store and try them out. Eastern
Mountain Sports has such things.
