Mine transfer all four ways at the same time. Mac to iPad. Mac to iPhone. iPhone to Mac. iPad to Mac. Boy I can't wait to not need the Mac in the middle this fall

I am new to iPad. I have a slight concern. If I put something in notes or calendar on my iPhone. Then sync iPhone and iPad the notes go to iPad. But if I put them on iPad first then sync them both they don't transfer. Does anyone know why this is? Thanks in advance
