Why printing?
For one thing, some things still need to be in hard copy signed document
form for legal if not posterity purposes.
Maybe in the future legal papers will be electronic, but for-sure not until
they can be fraud- & tamper-proof & maybe not even then for the really
important stuff. Would *you* trust an e-Will (or even a video version) that
didn't treat you as you thought you should or would be? Even with signed &
written versions there's plenty of work for contesting cases!
Maybe in the future you'll be able to get an elderly person to understand &
cope with signing an electronic funds authorization on a portable device --
and have the financial institution, govt, etc accept it -- but for-sure not
anytime soon.
Maybe in the future paper love-letters will be such a dim memory -- or have
entered the realm of myth -- that nobody will care. I doubt, though, that
tomorrow's grandparents will get quite the same thrill from all-cloud pics
of the kids that even one printed snapshot gives -- and that little print
can be carried around in the wallet (I don't really see wallets going away
anytime soon, we can't even get rid of the US$1 bill!)

Why should there be printing? Save the image/ text on the cloud and use it
or send it whenever /wherever you need.
Before Ipod, people could not expect mobile device without memory card.
Before Ipod touch, people never wanted a personal organiser without
keyboard.
Before Iphone 1, users could not visualise a phone without normal SIM or
replacable batteries.
Before Ipad, people could not imagine a product without USB port.
