I consider myself an older person at 69, but find that I thoroughly enjoy the cool features! Learning to use them provides a much needed exercise for my brain.

Well, yes, it's multiple targets. They have to please everyone. But, in the end, their big money comes from iPhones, no? That's hardware, and hardware for a wide audience, which is increasingly older people, and older people want ease of use, not a thousand insanely cool features.
