Some companies are more hard-ass about small claims than others. Some may
even have what you might call a "one accident [claim] forgiveness" rule,
like some have for auto insurance. Maybe they differentiate between "your
fault" (dropsies) & "not your fault" (victim of crime.)
Better not to take chances on losing protection of a Big Asset just to get a
relatively minor payout. JMO.

From my experience with homeowner's insurance, this is not the time to do
it. I was told by one company that they would rather have someone with
really large claims rather than many small claims. I didn't know that and
was a red flag to my previous company. As soon as I accidentally let the
insurance lapse, they dropped me like a hot potato. I was then out of
insurance and no one wanted to take me on except one high-risk,
super-expensive insurance company! Lesson learned!!
