True touch-typing impies using nine fingers (all except the left thumb - the right thumb is used for the spacebar). This enables you to type BY TOUCH i.e. without looking at the keyboard. It is only possible with a physical keyboard and, even then, some are better than others. With the on-screen keyboard, some impressive speeds are possible, but only by looking at the keys and knowing where they are. This is greatly helped by having the key-click switched on. It' a pity that many characters, including numbers require shifting to the alternate keyboards, but then the special characters (é ß etc) are a bonus over standard keyboards
