Re: [iPad] HandBrake question

Sorry, I should have specified. I am using an iMac 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3 running Mac OS X 10.6.7 - I turn off the computer every night, so last reboot was this morning. And the problem persists. Actually it is more of a curiosity than a problem since it is easy enough to drag and drop. It doesn't seem to have any effect on playback.

I completely forgot about Handbrake forums so I'm off to harass them. I'll let you know if I find an answer.

Thank You,

Nicole

remember i am guessing.

they shoudl not change on their own. so. they play in itunes but wont auto add but they do add when you drag and drop into itunes? when was your last reboot? sometimes after a month or two of no reboot things may get a little wonky.

but it seems that the problem is purely in the auto add folder. does windows have a cache that may need to be empty? (which is why i suggested a reboot). this is realy over my head and i have no idea how windows works, really, so i just dont know, i keep hoping someone else hops in.

maybe the thing to do is post a question in the handbrake forums then repost the answer here :P

it may be the best answer is a workaround. either drag and drop onto the itunes icon or use the add to library menu option instead of teh folder....

I don't know anything about these settings that you mentioned, but I'm about to open Handbrake to figure it out. I never change the settings, will they change on their own? Different settings for different episodes on the same disk?  I know the entire file is being (ripped/downloaded? not sure of the correct word here) because after I drag and drop into iTunes, the file plays with no problems.

I'm going to start a spreadsheet to see if I can identify a pattern.  Any suggestions for column headings? Based on your questions I will start with:
size, and h264 encoding, but what other things should I look at?

Vampire porn. Aka twilight. True blood.

Back on track

I assume the handbrake settings are identical? On the Mac, there is h264 encoding and not, in handbrake. Try not using it and see if your odds improve. Make certain they play first on the DVD. Make sure if iTunes won't grab them that they are not all overva certain sze or under. When then rip geeks sometimes I'll notice the resulting file s only a 14 minute file. Oops. I'll then try non h264. That's just if the encode geeks. If it is only the auto add folder that is geeking. Then it's even more perplexing. What happens if you try again with the files? Or after an iTunes restart?

Never heard of Vampire porn....
There is no apparent pattern. Out of 4 movies, 1 was not added. out of 2 different TV series, 3 disks from NCIS and 4 disks from Star Trek:TNG literally half the episodes are not added automatically. Usually 2 from each disk are added and 2 are not. Again, no pattern. Could be episode 1&2 or 3&4 or 1&3...

All from DVD's, no problem with the music, but that doesn't go through Handbrake. None are Torrented.

The files that are not added are put into a folder called "not added" which contains multiple folders named with date and times.  Usually one file in each folder. No error message.

Any guesses?

I don't know. That's how I currently get 100% of my content into iTunes. Is there a pattern? Only long movies? Only songs? Only vampire porn? Ripped from DVD? Torrented? Etc?

Why, when I put TV shows into the "Automatically add to iTunes" folder, do only half of them get into iTunes? I have to click and drag to get the others in.
