Re: [iPad] FBI's secret method of unlocking iPhone may never reach Apple

"Goodwill" is a financial asset.  Google tells me I probably spelled it wrong (no space) and used it incorrectly.  Apologies.  I meant to say the obvious - that if the public likes the image a consumer-products company projects, they're more likely to buy its products than if they didn't.

Look, Kris, when we talk about any organization's "intentions", government or non-government, we're letting our imagination get the better of our brain.

Organizations are machines, period.  And the people who work for them are obliged either to act in their best interests - profit and longevity - or be sacked.

Then what do you say specifically to Tim cooks comments that were posted here about the things that Apple does without concern to profit or ROI?

Kris, Apple is a publicly traded corporation.  It's sole reason for being is to make money.

If its CEO takes an apparently non-business public position, you can be sure it's calculated to benefit the bottom line.

When Steve Jobs was alive and heading up the corporation, his cranky charisma often obscured that fact, but it was very much in play, nonetheless.
