I agree that streaming is not downloading file.
It is downloading data.
That is the reason one can play a continuos podcasted video on a device whose RAM may be smaller than the actual video file, had it been downloaded.
Also, in such case, the EOF ( end of file ) marker is never sent/ received.
In many video files on CD / DVDs, the EOF marker is changed to ensure copy protection.
On can see the video on a computer but when you try to transfer it as a file, the checksum fails and hence the video file fails to transfer.
However, my knowledge in this area is dated.

Technically, anything acquired online is a download. I am reading this reply after the email has downloaded. Looking at a webpage is after the webpage has downloaded to your computers web browserIn relation to playing video, you can download the file, then after it has downloaded, the result is the file is on your computer. You can play it. That is not streamingStreaming is playing the video AS it downloads. Depending on what application is used to download/play you may also have the file, but typically you won't.YouTube is streaming, On Demand TV is streaming. Downloading 3 episodes of a TV series, then watching them a few days later is not streaming, you are merely playing a local file on your computerTony NZFrom: Tony <nyrngrz@yahoo.com>

I am sure I am not using the proper technical terms, but as Tony NZ states, I consider a "download" when I have to save the file to a file, then play it. I consider this to be streaming, but like I said, I may be using the incorrect technical term.Tony MFrom: Tony <tdale@xtra.co.nz>

Im not the OP, I am Tony NZI gather he is streaming from a website rather than downloading a discrete file then playing that file. His "file" is being played while downloading, so unless the website has a save option, he wont have a discrete file on his computer------------------------------------ Yahoo Groups Links <*> To visit your group on the web, go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/iPad/ <*> Your email settings: Individual Email | Traditional <*> To change settings online go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/iPad/join (Yahoo!
