I've had excellent service by making an appointment at the Genius Bar at my local Apple store. A few weeks ago I took in my 5 year old Macbook Pro. They spent over 1 1/2 hours working on it and were able to fix the problem. There was no charge for the service. I've also had to take in my iMac, way past any warranty.
If you have an Apple store nearby, take it in and have them take a look at it.
