Solid points, Tony. I'd get one.

Yep, sound points. It would be optional as you don't need to buy it or use it. Off course a suggestion as yours as Surface was supposed to be would be ideal, or in the form of a netbook, but the issue is cost. An Apple version of Surface would be expensive as would an Apple netbook. A dock that combined your existing processing power, memory and screen would be fairly cheap. Complicated, I don't feel so, no less so than setting iTunes to sync to our iDevices as now.I see it as an innovation rather than a fantasy. Its more or less been done now with Surface, that has failed due to cost and poor implementationTo me, the issue is not about how many iPhones will we sell, its about getting users into the Apple ecosystem and having them contribute to revenue ongoingly, a low cost dock would add one more level of choice, integrationFrom: David H. While I don't begrudge anybody else their fantasies, I would hope that
this would all be totally optional.
Sounds way too complicated for what many of us bought iPads for in the
first place.
It also sounds like it would just be easier/better for Apple to make a
notebook with a touchscreen which can be swiveled so it can act as a
tablet. Use an SSD drive so there would be no moving parts and the body
could be made thinner, then iOS could be dispensed with, OSX would be
all that would be needed, the device would have terrific battery life
and we wouldn't need to decide what we would have to sync to use on the run.
