Malware includes more than viruses.
Yes, there are presently no viruses in the wild that can infect MacOS X.
There are definitely malicious attacks the Mac is susceptible to, but they pretty uniformly require the user's co-operation to download, unpack, and install.
iPad? I'm not aware of anything a *non-jailbroken* iPad is susceptible to.
