Re: [iPad] The 227-Year-Old Statute Being Used to Order Apple to Endanger Your Privacy, Explained

I would like to know if the FBI absolutely needs the, assumed, information on that phone in order to make their case in court.
Tom

What case in court?
The person who had the iPhone is question is dead.

I'm aware that the terrorist is dead.  As for the court case … I'm just assuming the FBI takes Apple to court to get their way.

The FBI has already taken Apple to court, by getting a judge to issue a writ. Now we are into replies and appeals.

The FBI's court case against Apple does not depend in any way on the actual contents of the device.

That case is basically about the use/misuse of the All Writs Act, and about the U.S. Constitution.
