All i can say is... be careful of what you wish for! I had been googling for ideas on how to get this sync working again, and tried a variety of solutions. Imagine my surprise when i checked my calendar yesterday and found it was syncing... Too well. Every single event was on the calendar twice! Yikes! I painstakingly deleted all the doubles. A few hours later, when i checked the calendar again, all the doubles were back.
I remembered one of the solutions i tried was to set up something called CALDAV. I found that in settings, and deleted it. When i checked my calendar this morning, all was well, and it is now once again syncing as it should. Whew!
