Ill google later, at work now. In short , and I am not sure of the exact tech reasons, but while it boasts a good pixel count per inch, its fake, perhaps like an upsized HD video conversion. Up close you can see the pixels, at a normal distance it looks normal. It isnt real pixels at that count per inch. Common annoyance for S3 users I gather

Can anyone provide a simple explanation of the differences between the "Retina" and the "Pentile" displays in terms of how they are different and why the difference makes one better than the other?

Are we at a point where the difference between something like Apple's 250 (or so) ppi and Samsung's 441 ppi don't really matter in terms of how well the user can read the display? If I believe Apple, your eye cannot discern one pixel at their display density so Samsung's somewhat better ppi doesn't really matter. But, I know that a lot of Apple is marketing (as is any other vendor) so their claims must be vetted.
As far as devices are concerned -- I've no real use for any of the cell phones regardless of manufacture or OS. The one I carry is about 3 yrs old and I've probably made less than five calls from it. I keep it only for emergency situations; I piggyback on my daughter's plan so the monthly cost is minimal. I'm definitely too cheap to own an iPhone.
I've an iPad 3 which I use to keep some medical records, as a navigation tool with the TomTom app, as a music storage and portable player for the car, and as a document storage.
I've an iPod Touch one generation old which I use for music. a first gen iPod Touch which we use for music, and a Macbook Pro Retina which I use for most everything else.
If I could only have one, it'd be the Macbook Pro.
