That has happened to me at home on my iMac. Not sure why.

That's happened to me when I was at a cafe with 'free wifi' but their internet connection itself was down. I was indeed getting WiFi, but their own router needed to be restarted or something. When I turned off wifi and went to my 4G LTE, it was as normal.
