Could be dust, wear, maybe moisture. You could go into settings, general, accessibility, and turn on assistive touch which puts a little icon at the side of your iPad screen.
Another way to get 'home' is just lay Your hand w/thumb & fingers on your screen, and pinch inward. It usually closes the app you are in... This problem happened before on my iPad 3. nothing really fixed it, so it might just be wear.

Good Sunday to all fellow group members. I have an iPad problem and am hoping someone can help me. The home button on my iPad 2 has stopped working. I have to hit it at least 10 times to finally get myself out of an app or onto my home page. It happens all the time and almost started over night. I might have had a problem every now and then before but last night it started to happen every time I use it. It is almost useless for me right now because I can't get out of apps. I have tried closing all apps and doing a soft reset and neither worked. Does anyone have any idea why this would have happened or how I can fix it? Thanks for the help!!
