That can make a difference.... When I 'sell' things, I mainly start to just use it and let others see what I'm doing. Then, they're all "WHOA!" or; "You can do THAT?" I'm not saying they 'need this', but I just kind of make them want it through my own actions... I don't work on Commission, so while someone may think they want a Mac Mini with a thunderbolt display, the keyboard etc, I show them how 'economical' a 27" iMac is. Entry level, thunderbolt, KB & mouse in it, + they get a quad-core processor and 4GB RAM. They can have more RAM in it, if they want it.. I don't sell anyone a ferrari to use to go to the market, I ask what they would be using the things for? They tell me, and that is what I give them. If I can save them a few bucks, They're happy and so am I. :-)
I've never felt good about Tim Cook. He exudes marketing. Marketing - merchandising - is a necessary evil, not the essence of Apple.I guess you never saw young Steve Jobs selling Apple ][ computers, huh?He did it better. So your problem isn't with marketing per se, but with how charismatic the spokesman is.
