Funny you should suggest this. I just had that thought suddenly yesterday, that I could buy a small flat screen that might sit on a music stand and connect it with an HDMI cable. For at home I could just use apple tv. Thanks for the suggestions.

Our solution is to output the desktop 1920x1080 to big screen HD TV at same resolution and it is easy to see and play guitar on a few feet away....and screen quality is excellent even close up (5').
Cost = $5 for HDMI cable; plug into laptop and TV = done (may have to use laptop keystroke to have display on 2 screens).
I think there may be an iPad cable converter to go from iPad socket to HDMI, but have not looked yet as same sheet music on both iPad and laptop, and laptop near TV all day.
We scan sheet music and save as .pdf.

I love my iPad with forScore and iCScores etc, but it's just not really big enough to really see a whole page with nice big notes. I need one that is at least 8x10 and preferably even bigger. I guess I should not hold my breath. A laptop doesn't fit on a music stand and doesn't run the aps.
