Not sure, but it is going on 4 years that I have been feeding Snowflake, the abandoned cat. There was another abandoned cat in the neighborhood that died a year ago this past November. He had been on his own a couple of years at least that I am aware of.

Snowflake appears to be in good health, no marks of fighting, no torn ear bits etc. Still cannot pet her, but she talks to me.

Your right Jim. I never owned a cat but I always think that if I owned one, it would be a house cat. I love having roaming cats in the neighborhood to keep the field mice at bay but its a risky proposition for the cat.
