I think whatever you do bad to an animal, the same should be done to you. Dad caught me pulling on the family dogs ear when I was a kid.  He pulled my ear. It hurt. He said, "Hurts doesn't it? That's what it feels like to Schotzie." I never did it again.

BTW, roaming birds can be a threat to cats, too. A neighbor had her cat picked up by a raptor, then dropped from such a height that the cat died. Just sayin'
