Re: [iPad] OT: TV Recommendation Request

Most of the current and recent past receivers have some sort of room equalization that accounts for much of the difference between where we listen and that ideal home theater layout.

Note that is true of the stand alone receivers and not so true with the Home Theater in a Box type configurations.

I currently have a Denon AVR-2113ci that use the Audyssey equalization.  With it you have a small microphone that you place in 6-8 different locations and run a test sequence.  When that sequence is done it calculates whatever it needs to and sets thiings up to give you as close to a 'perfect' setup as it can.

My room is far from ideal and is rectangular.  After running the process, which takes about 15 minutes or so, I was amazed at how much better things sounded.

Our living room is also rectangular.

I was thinking it wouldn't sound as much surround because of the cathedral ceilings. My living room is rectangular instead of more square. I understand a more square room is better for surround.

I have cathedral vaulted ceilings. There is no distortion due to the vaulted ceiling.  We placed our speakers so they are pointed down at us, the front speakers are approximately 4' from the ceiling and the rear speakers approximatly 1' due to our TV sitting under the peak of the vault. We have an A/V receiver so everything that is hooked up to the TV (cable, video games consoles, Mac Mini) goes through the surround sound system.

For all of you with surround sound, do you have cathedral (vaulted) ceilings? How do you compensate?
