No, the page adjusts. There is less data per page but no scrolling side to side.
You can also select a font if the default one does not work for you.

Do you have to adjust the image from side to side when reading with the iPad Mini if you enlarge the print in a book?  This does not seem good if this is so.  I was under the impression that there wouldn't be as much on one page but you would be able to see it all without going from side to side.  this would not be my choice.
