i'm on the learning curve here on cellular data but i'd say you have to go with gsm in italy, given that lte isn't available there with either the 1459 or the 1460...and since gsm tech specs are the same for both models it appears it wouldn't make a difference which one you use.

Sent from my iPad CDMA and LTE technology is not the same. You are correct, CDMA is not used in European and other nations….but LTE is, albeit in its early stages.
