here are the specs for att (model 1459) and verizon (model 1460)...what you see in this info from the apple site on the ipad4 is they use identical frequencies for gsm...i asked apple reps if this meant either model would perform equally well in context of gsm outside the united states...both reps said "yes."

that said, i've been told by a couple of people at apple that if you get the verizon model ipad4 you also can use sprint cellular data service with it...like most things, there is more to the selection of an ipad4 model than first thought...for instance, if you travel outside the united states and want to use cutting-edge lte cellular data internet service when it's availble, you're better off with the verizon model 1460 than with the at&t model 1459.
