OK, Jim. Well, I don't really speak for myself as I spend little time sitting in a chair reading anyway. I have been speaking on behalf of my wife who does. It just occurred to me that the pillow option simply won't work for her anyway….. she usually has her Bedlington Terrier laying on her lap when reading….. and no, the Bedlington is a bit too 'lumpy' and wiggly to allow resting the reading device on her. ☺

ed, i am a senior citizen who needs type close to my eyes too, but i never hold a book or any reading device...try two pillows...prop the device up somehow so it's at a correct angle...anything to avoid the stress of holding a book or reading device...experiment, man, experiment!

A reading device, even on a pillow on the lap, is too far from the eyes of most of us oldsters to see the print clearly. And don't tell us to make the font larger…. I don't want to have to turn a page every dozen words or so. ☺

you put the book on a pillow that's in your lap...there's never a reason you have to "hold" a book or an ipad in the air, whether in a car, in bed or riding in a car...thus the copious discussion about how much ipads weigh versus kindles versus other devices is unnecessary...that said, there's no lack of discussion about this very subject...i just don't get it...either i'm missing something or 99 percent of the population of the world apparently has never thought of simply putting the book or ipad or kindle or whatever on a pillow...by the way, there's all kinds of pillows...experiment.
