Agreed. The Apple approach has some great support advantages in places big enough for Apple stores. In the stix, sometimes the carriers offer better support because their is no store or Genius bar for 100+ miles.
Some people just can barely afford a Tablet at all so the $199 Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire are their only option - they barely scraped together that. Over time - hopefully - the volume of business Apple is doing and the scale of manufacturing will make all their hardware within many person's price range. I have encountered many people under 30 that don't own computers in any form and who are saving for any tablet and their low-end Android smart phones are their only computers. They do email, facebook, music and web browsing on them - and it blows my mind. They don't have a single laptop. Not a single desktop. Many do not live with their parents anymore, who may have had PCs they could use but they get so skilled with the phones they don't miss them.
As a person who owns several computers and devices of course, it does not reflect my situation but we all need to be aware a LOT of Americans have very little expendable income and scrimp and save to get anything at all. Of course we are older and have saved, or made our way to upper middle class or higher so we forget how so many are still treading water below middle class, yet want some kind of smart device.
So low end devices fill a very desperate need for some people. In an ideal word, Apple would work with 3rd party stores to maybe get older models manufactured at low prices to get those people something nice and make them converts.
Well, that *IS* a major difference between those systems and Apple's combined hardware/OS/curated software ecosystem.Yeah the carrier/Handset vendor can be very frustrating and can be as bad as trying to get Microsoft or some PC vendor to fix something with finger pointing rather than fixes the rule rather than exception. You pays your money and you takes your pick.
