Must be a new "unlocked down" feature!!
On locked down (I so hate that term) I can see more and more things being eased under the new regime. But, some part of this, such as files beiong owned by the apps is a sound security measure.
Walled Garden vs Wild West, cannot have everything both ways, but as said, I feel Apple users may see gradual improvements here and there

My hope is that Apple will do like M$ and put their OS on iPhone and iPad, that way we can create, save, have folders, and have what we want in those folders. Its like my photo albums... I'm the one who goes to the store, my wife is at home with her alzheimer-Mom... so when she needs something, she shoots me a picture of it, I save it for then and later, and if I could make my own folder on iPhone, I could have a folder with just her stuff and not have to scroll through the thousands of pix to find what I'm looking for.If this Windoz8 is a hit, then maybe that'll force Apple to open their iOS to OS. Let's face it, these little tablets are really making a way in personal computing. Apple can't keep it locked down forever... or can they?On Nov 1, 2012, at 5:45 PM, Tony <tdale@xtra.co.nz> wrote:No. Thats right, but not what I meant.Thats why I put " (software for Microsoft) "
Apple makes money off their hardware, plus apps, etc. Micrsosoft is the same except they make the money off software. At the end of the day, both make a retail margin once by way of a sale of a Apple device, or of a OS that goes on a Windows device. Just once. After that Microsft is wanting to emulate Apple by garnering regular smaller revenue by way off apps, music, etc. And with that, marry the user to Windows by way of ease of use, and integration.
To me they are trying to mirror their business with Apple. Thats a good move as its proven. They are WAY late to market, but the brand and a growing app store will bring them into the big three befiore long. maybe a year, maybe two. I see Android struggling, as they will be the odd one out

Other manufacturers make metro tablets not just Microsoft.
