I'd love to cut the cord, but my wife's emotionally attached to cable. Hard to understand, but you can't argue with likes and dislikes.
Time-Warner here (southwest Ohio) is doing something moderately clever. They're offering 50Mbps download speeds, but only with a reasonably priced ($200/year) bundle - phone, tv, and internet. With the bundle also comes better customer service - top technicians who can take the time to look deeper into problems and explain things to the customer and a local help line.
Of course, tho they advertise 50Mbps, I usually top out at 38, on a good day, but responsiveness is noticeably better than it was when they were promising 30Mbps.
You're right! Too many people pay way too much for TV. It's incredible. Although I didn't ditch the TV altogether, I subscribe to the basic, basic cable. It costs $17 monthly. I amazingly doubled the amount of channels when I bought my HDTV. However, when I added a cable box to the mix, I lost all my extra channels, including some of the ones I had on my basic without a box. So I promptly asked them to remove my cable box. Happy again.
