I'm experiencing the same dilemma you are, but not only with a G4
PowerBook, but with a G5 PowerMac as well. Unfortunately there are fewer
and fewer options for these aging machines. PowerPC compatible versions of
Linux are still around but will have some limitations. For example there is
no Adobe Flash players or official Java support for PowerPC Linux. There
are some open source options but there may be some compatibility issues.
There may also be issues with connecting newer hardware to your older Mac
since new hardware drivers are not going to be developed for the older
PowerPc platform.
