My brother just cracked his iPad's screen. After considering the 3rd party options, he decided to take it to the Apple Store. He learned that they do not actually replace the screen. They "give" you a new iPad, for which you pay approximately 1/2 the cost of a new iPad. Your original warranty (if any is left) remains intact.
