This reminds me that I, too, am confused about talk of changing sim cards. Why would one want to do that - and how is it possible, since there seems to be no way to open the ipad?
You would buy a different SIM card because you would want to to get 3G in a different country, when you're traveling.
A 3G iPad has a small opening on the side opposite to the lock button / volume control. You open it with the little tool that was in your package if you bought a 3G iPad (many of us have lost it and we use a paper clip). A small tray comes out, the SIM card rests on the tray.
