I thought of waiting too, though that ended up meaning I didn't get one in April but in June.
My rationale in buying now was that my daughter or wife would get the "old" one when purchased the new one.
I decided to get the cheapest one (16GB wifi only) because I know I will get the newer iPad.

Plus I took it to the Univ where I teach and once I showed it around, others were ordering their own.
