Re: [iPad] OK to leave charger plugged in?

> I just visited my local Apple store last week and asked this very same question, since I was in the habit of listening to Pandora all day long while it was plugged in. The Apple guy was adamant about charging to 100%, then removing the charger and using the battery all the way down. By not doing so, you will find the battery not lasting as long.

At <http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html>, Apple states:

> For proper reporting of the battery's state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
and
> A properly maintained iPad battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 1000 full charge and discharge cycles. You may choose toreplace your battery when it no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs.

Elsewhere, Apple states that recharging 4 times when it reads 75% charge is the equivalent of 1 full charge cycle.

If you run it on battery every day, get down to 10%, then recharge every night, 1000 full charge and discharge cycles will take you more than 3 years. Many - if not most - of us will replace their iPads before then.
